Internal Complaints Committee

The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) is the statutory body constituted under Section 4 of the POSH Act, 2013 to receive, inquire into, and resolve complaints of sexual harassment at the workplace.

The names of the current members are notified by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. The contact details of the Presiding Officer and all members are displayed in every hostel, departmental office, and the central library.

Filing a complaint

  • Within three months of the incident (or the last in a series of incidents), with the option of an extension where the Committee is satisfied that circumstances prevented earlier filing.
  • In writing, by email, or in person to the Presiding Officer.
  • By the aggrieved woman herself, or by a relative, friend, co-worker, or any person who has knowledge of the incident, with her written consent.
  • Confidentiality is protected by Section 16 of the Act and is breached only on the order of a court.

Inquiry procedure

  • Inquiry to be completed within ninety days of receipt of the complaint.
  • Conciliation may be attempted at the request of the aggrieved woman, but not where a monetary settlement is the basis of conciliation.
  • The respondent has the right to a fair hearing and to representation through a colleague or a faculty advocate (not a legal practitioner).
  • The Committee submits its report to the Vice-Chancellor within ten days of completion of the inquiry. The Vice-Chancellor implements the recommendations within sixty days, or records reasons for any departure.

Annual Report

The ICC submits an Annual Report to the District Officer (Section 21 of the POSH Act). The report is also placed before the Syndicate. Aggregate, anonymised data is published as part of the University's Annual Report.
